Mindful Self-Compassion – Building Resilience & Strength in Difficult Times

In this workshop you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in some of the key practices and exercises of the full 8-week MSC program with an emphasis on building resilience and strength in distress or experiencing emotional turmoil.

Everyone is welcome! No previous MSC group attendance is required.

Self-compassion includes the capacity to comfort, soothe and validate ourselves, but also to protect and provide for ourselves, and to motivate ourselves to achieve our goals. Fortunately, anyone can learn self-compassion.

After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Interrupt the cycle of self-criticism and self-doubt
  • Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
  • Develop a foundation of kindness for facing life’s many difficulties

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction – 8 Week Class

8-WEEK COURSE FOR CULTIVATING AWARENESS AND WELL BEING

Mondays Sep 19, 2022 – Nov 7, 2022

This experiential course will give you:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Group dialogue to increase awareness in daily life
  • Individually tailored instruction
  • Daily home assignments, including guided mindfulness recordings and a workbook
  • Peace of mind that comes with learning from the safety of your home

Evidence-Based

Decades of research has shown that participants training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction can have long lasting reduction in psychological distress and medical symptoms, including chronic pain.

Mindful Self-Compassion – 8 Week Class

8-WEEK COURSE FOR PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION

Wednesdays September 21, 2022 – November 9, 2022

What to Expect

The MSC course includes 8 weekly sessions of 2.5 hours each, and a half-day (4 hour) mindfulness retreat. Each week builds on the previous one and participants who register for the course should be able to attend all or most of the 8 sessions. Program activities include guided meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices.

The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. MSC is primarily a compassion training program rather than mindfulness training like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), although mindfulness is the foundation of self-compassion.

The MSC course focuses on building emotional resources rather than addressing old wounds. Positive change occurs naturally as we develop the capacity to be with ourselves and the range of our experiences in a kinder, more compassionate way.

After participation in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Practice self-compassion in daily life
  • Understand the empirically-supported benefits of self-compassion
  • Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
  • Handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • Transform challenging relationships, old and new
  • Manage caregiver fatigue
  • Practice the art of savoring and appreciation

With self-compassion, we can motivate ourselves with encouragement, forgive ourselves when needed, face and befriend our shortcomings, care for others while caring for self, and live more authentically.

PRE-REQUISITES

Everyone is welcome! The MSC program can benefit those we are new to mindfulness practices and experienced meditators. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required. Registration for the course is required, and participants are asked to provide background information when they register.
